Call for papers

The organising committee of the 2012 Australian Collaborative Education Network (ACEN) National Conference, Collaborative Education: Investing in the Future, invites abstracts and proposals to be presented at the conference on 29 October-2 November, in Geelong, Victoria.

Presentations may take the following forms:

Research Papers

Full-refereed papers presenting either completed empirical research or theoretical explorations (max 2500 words).  Presentations, including questions, extend to 30 minutes.

Showcase / Best Practice / Topical Issues

Concise refereed papers, non-refereed abstract only, presenting analysis of case study exemplars of practice or emerging issues and research (max. 1500 words).  Presentations extend to 15 minutes.

Posters

Non-refereed presentations of relevant research or practice to be displayed during conference with presentation during designated combined session (presentation size A2).

Roundtable discussion

Focused 60-minute discussion around an identified issue.  Proposals should be presented in not more than 500 words, with identification of convenor’s and panel’s expertise and interest.  Discussions must be developed within a problem-based learning approach with active participation of attendees.

Symposia

A thematic 90-minute presentation, which may be either a collection of three (3) related research papers, or a negotiated workshop style presentation. Proposal should extend to not more than 750 words.

The deadline for submission for proposals and abstracts was 16 March, 2012. However, the program committee may consider abstracts submitted after this date for a limited number of tracks. If you would like to discuss a late submission please email the Submissions Administrative Officer at kim.atkinson@deakin.edu.au.  If a late submission is approved, abstracts for Research Paper and Showcase / Best Practice / Topical Issues, along with Poster proposals, should extend to not more than 250 words. Please refer above for limits in relation to Roundtable discussion and Symposia formats.

Once the abstract has been accepted, papers for review are then to be submitted by 31 May, 2012.

Presenters should consider their presentation within the proposed conference themes of:

  • Future directions in assessment in WIL including e-portfolios
  • Challenges and innovation in the design and delivery of WIL
  • Emerging technologies and their impact on WIL
  • Shaping stakeholder partnerships for future WIL success including service and community based learning
  • Impacts of WIL on graduate outcomes and employability
  • Showcasing collaborations with industry

Instructions to Authors

All abstracts, proposals and full and concise paper submissions will be undertaken through an online submission system through the conference submission website: www.acen.edu.au/conference2012/openconf. Authors are strongly advised to review the content of this website prior to submission.

Submissions, in Microsoft Word format must be made using the templates provided and in accordance with the paper guidelines and submission requirements. Please ensure that you follow the ACEN paper guidelines for formatting. Submissions which do not follow all guidelines will be returned to authors and may not be accepted / reviewed.

Once abstracts have been accepted, please submit full and concise papers for reviewing using these guidelines and template - due 31 May 2012

There will be a “Rolling Review & Acceptance” process for abstracts and proposals. The committee will aim to provide feedback on abstracts and proposals within four weeks of submission. Please remember that there is an early deadline for abstracts of refereed papers.

All refereed papers will be included in the published conference proceedings.

  • Authors must be prepared to accept recommendations from the Conference Review Panel regarding any revisions that are deemed to be appropriate for the final draft of the full paper.
  • The decision of the Conference Review Panel is final and binding.
  • Acceptance of all presentations at the conference is deemed to have the approval of authors/presenters for uploading on the web.
  • Acceptance of refereed papers is deemed to have the approval of the authors for publishing in conference proceedings.
  • Authors retain all copyright of their published papers.
  • Authors/presenters are responsible for bringing to the conference any handouts or resources they wish to distribute.
  • At least one author/presenter has to register for the conference. All additional authors/presenters have to register if they are co-presenting and/or attending.
